Past

Our Story

Nether Heage boasts a long and fascinating history, tracing its origins back several centuries. History is right on our doorstep. Heage Windmill overlooks the village and is a treasured local landmark. Heage Hall can also be found in the village, with a long history. A coach drawn by horses is said to ride across the Dumbles on dark and misty nights. There are many other tales that village residents have memories of, that add to the uniqueness of the beautiful place we call home.

Present

Community Today

Today, Nether Heage thrives as a close-knit community where neighbours become friends. Sitting between the towns of Belper and Ripley, the village is surrounded by a rural landscape including fields, woods, streams and rolling hills. A trail to follow is never far away. The amenities include a park and the local pub The Spanker Inn, bringing villagers together. Caravan parks and places to stay are also located within and just outside the village boundary. The village hosts events that bring residents together and celebrate community spirit.
